   LOCAL SCHOOLS VISIT PARLIAMENT

Schools from Kilmarnock and Loudoun visit Parliament every year.

SCHOOL VISITS TO PARLIAMENT

A new pilot scheme has just been launched to help schools cover the costs of a trip to the UK Parliament in Westminster.

Des Browne said; "Parliament is a great place for a school visit. All of my constituents who have enjoyed the tour of the House of Commons have loved it.

Unfortunately, a trip to London is outwith the pockets of too many of my youngest constituents. Now that needn't matter so much as schools in Kilmarnock and Loudoun can claim up to 75% of the travel costs of a visit. It is a fantastic opportunity to learn about the history of the building and the day to day importance and relevance of what goes on there.

I hope many more young people from the area can now afford to come and share the experience and magic of the Palace of Westminster. I have been calling for a scheme like this since I was elected and I am delighted there is one now."

The Education Service at the House of Commons is taking bookings using this scheme. The pilot has begun will run to the end of May 2009.
